How does Ultrasound Work?
Ultrasound involves high frequency sound waves passing through the body. When an ultrasound probe is placed against the skin sound waves pass through into the body, when these sound waves interact with an object (organ) they reflect (bounce back) to the ultrasound probe and produce an image of what they have interacted with.
These images are captured in real time imaging and displayed on a monitor. The images produced can detect whether the tissues that they have interacted with are healthy or diseased due to different rates of reflection. During the examination you will not feel anything.
Ultrasound can also monitor blood flow, this is done under Doppler control, this allows visualisation of the blood vessels and assess the rate of blood flow, direction of blood flow, and if there are any abnormalities.
Who performs the Ultrasound examination?
All the staff at Ex-Scan UK are experienced in their field and have many years experience in both the NHS and private sector. You will be seen by either a Consultant Radiologist or an experienced Ultrasonographer.
